The METOLAT® product line includes mostly wetting agents and some dispersants. MÜNZING has a range of solutions for addressing wetting problems. These often turn out to be surface defects like craters, fish eyes, orange peel, or cissing. A range of different polymer chemistries are available, generally being divided into siloxane-based and siloxane-free, and either nonionic or ionic. The products show an outstanding reduction of the surface tension without negatively influencing the inter-coat adhesion and, at the same time, low foaming behavior. METOLAT® products are also available for wetting pigments and fillers and for solving compatibility problems. The METOLAT® series dispersants offer pigment-specific solutions for, e.g., carbon black or inorganic pigments.

It improves the pigment dispersion in emulsion paints especially with pigments which are difficult to disperse. METOLAT 388 prevents flocculation of the particles caused by emulsifier migration after long storage of the paint or through a mechanical or thermal shock. METOLAT 388 is biodegradable and is recommended specifically for environmental safe systems. METOLAT 388 is suitable for wire drawing.

METOLAT 514 is an anionic dispersing agent with low foam tendencies suitable for many aqueous systems. It is recommended for most common pigments and fillers. METOLAT 514 is compatible with many emulsion polymers. It can be used over a wide pH range. METOLAT 514 reduces the mill base viscosity and provides higher pigment volume concentrations. It prevents the formation of settlements and stabilizes the system.

METOLAT 600 is an additive designed to increase the water retention of paper coating colours. Due to its moderate thickening effect in combination with high water retention METOLAT 600 is recommended for all coating colours in which the water retention should be improved without increasing the viscosity. The effect on high shear viscosity is low. Due to its properties the product is easy and accurate to dose.

METOLAT ETC 1 is a surface additive which provides easy to clean surfaces, reduced adhesion of spray paints and increased marker resistance. It also guarantees pronounced tape release and slip properties. It should only be used in solvent-based systems. Due to its hydroxy functionality, it can be permanently anchored in the binder matrix using suitable 2-component systems, e.g. based on acrylate/isocyanate.

METOLAT P 530 is recommended for grinding and dispersing pigments and dyes in aqueous systems. It reduces the mill base viscosity which allows preparation of higher concentrated dispersions. METOLAT P 530 is particularly recommended for dispersing of carbon black. It acts as protective colloid in aqueous dispersions and emulsions. In the building industry METOLAT P 530 is recommended for plasticizing cement based mortars. It increases mortar density without reducing the long-term strength of the concrete. METOLAT P 530 does not influence the foam tendency of aqueous systems. It is resistant to salts, alkaline and acidic environment. It is compatible with most anionic and non-ionic additives. Cationic products may be flocculated by METOLAT P 530. METOLAT P 530 is suitable for wire drawing.

The addition of METOLAT P 588 results in an accelerated wetting of all solid particles, including sand, cement and fibres. This results in a more homogeneous mixture of the mass and a more uniform aspect of the surface after drying. In pigmented systems METOLAT P 588 leads to a faster wetting of the pigment surface and prevents reagglomeration. Colour strength is increased and the pigment can be used more efficiently. METOLAT P 588 improves the homogeneous distribution of the pigments and prevents their floading to the surface. In powder paints the use of METOLAT P 588 prevents rub-out effects. METOLAT P 588 also prevents efflorescence („lime bloom“).
